This week I tried a few wines and funnily enough it was a cheap and cheerful choice from Aldi that made the cut.
I normally shop in Lidl, truth be told. But there have been a few people telling me to check out Aldi’s selection, so I thought I’d give them a try. I picked up a few wines on that trip and as long as they taste well, they may appear in this same column.
This one caught my eye as I love a good Pinot Gris. The same grape as Pinot Grigio, but grown in a different part of the world and in a different climate. When labelled under Pinot Gris you would normally be looking at a bottle of Alsatian wine, but here the Kiwi’s have given it the southern hemisphere treatment.
The result is a wine with a lovely full mouthfeel. The flavours that it gives out are green and red apple and a little bit of citrus. Light a zesty, so you could easily drink this on its own. The Freeman’s Bay wine would also match really well with white fish with a cream sauce or some light chicken dishes. For the money, this is an excellent wine and well worth a try.
